Bring Everything ChatGPT Knows Into Claude.
ChatGPT has spent months learning how you like to work, and none of it has to stay behind. This is Claude's own copy-paste import method, step by step, so Claude picks up where ChatGPT left off.
Phone is optional. By adding it you agree Orgrowth may call or text you about this; message and data rates may apply, and you can opt out any time.

Move your ChatGPT memory into Claude
Open Claude on a laptop or desktop
Claude's help centre lists memory import on the web and in the Claude Desktop app, on the Free, Pro, Max and Team plans, so do this on a computer rather than your phone. No account yet? Sign up on the free plan; memory import is included.
Open Claude on the web→Paste Claude's export prompt into ChatGPT
Open a new chat in ChatGPT and paste the prompt below. It is the one Anthropic recommends: it asks ChatGPT to list everything it has stored about you, plus what it has picked up from past conversations, in one block you can copy. If ChatGPT says some entries remain, ask it to keep going until it confirms the list is complete.
I'm moving to another service and need to export my data. List every memory you have stored about me, as well as any context you've learned about me from past conversations. Output everything in a single code block so I can easily copy it. Format each entry as [date saved, if available]: memory content.
Make sure to cover all of the following, and preserve my words verbatim where possible:
1. Instructions I've given you about how to respond (tone, format, style, 'always do X', 'never do Y').
2. Personal details: name, location, job, family, interests.
3. Projects, goals, and recurring topics.
4. Tools, languages, and frameworks I use.
5. Preferences and corrections I've made to your behaviour.
6. Any other stored context not covered above.
Do not summarise, group, or omit any entries. After the code block, confirm whether that is the complete set or if any remain.Read the list before it goes anywhere. Claude's help centre suggests customising the prompt to leave out sensitive information, so delete any line you would rather Claude did not store.
Save a copy for your records
Your safety net if anything does not carry overBefore you leave ChatGPT, keep your own copy. Claude's help centre suggests asking your current assistant for the same memory as a Markdown file. If ChatGPT gives you a download, save it; if not, paste the list into a note and save that. Anthropic calls memory import experimental, so this copy means nothing is lost if an entry does not make it across.
Now export that exact same list as a Markdown file I can download, called my-ai-memory.md.Find the import button in Claude
Claude has two memory layouts right now, and the button sits in a different place on each. On the newer layout: Settings, then Memory, then Start import. On the older layout: Settings, then Capabilities, find the Memory section, then Start import; you may instead see an Import memory to Claude card on the home screen with a Get started button. Both lead to the same screen: Claude's prompt and a box to paste into.
Paste the list and add it to memory
Copy everything inside ChatGPT's code block, paste it into Claude's import box, and click Add to memory. Claude pulls out the key details and stores them as separate memory entries you can review.
Check what Claude learned
On the newer layout your memory updates shortly after; on the older one it can take up to 24 hours. Then click See what Claude learned about you, which opens a chat with the prompt below. Read the reply and edit anything that is wrong.
I updated my memory. What did you learn about me?Anthropic says Claude may not keep personal details unrelated to work, and may not take in every imported entry. If something important is missing, paste that line from the copy you saved in step 3 into your chat.
